News Alert – Extreme Weather

NEWS ALERT – 29 November 2017

Flinders Power – the company responsible for decommissioning the Augusta Power Stations –  says  a severe wind front hit the region this afternoon. The company was applying soil to the outer banks of the Ash Storage site when westerly winds of over 70km/hr hit. The extreme weather event was not forecast. The winds hit an area where contractors were applying soil – and the cloud of dust created lasted for about 20 minutes. The dust did not emanate  from the whole site – just a small section that was being worked on. The dust was blown away from Port Augusta city to the east of the site.  Contractors ceased work immediately during the weather event and  proceeded to cover the affected area with water from water carts.
